I am an artist of Chickasaw-Choctaw descent who was trained as a painter and sculptor. Incorporating traditional weaving techniques with my fine arts training, I create contemporary garments, "art for the body", that are a fusion of past and present. My garments have a very personal vision but also reflect my extensive research of traditional designs. My work is a new interpretation of ancient traditions which recognizes clothing as an expressive cultural art form.

The Mahotans are Totemic Structures which I have created as an imaginary tribe with different clans. There are the Wind People Clan which are outdoor sculpture. The Woodland Clan, which stand three feet tall, and have hand carved faces. The Venetian Clan have lamp worked glass bead heads.

The spirit of my great-great-great-great grandmother Mahota flows through my contemporary designs. She was a survivor of the removal of the Chickasaws to Oklahoma in 1844."")

In the 1990's I have been able to combine my weaving with my interest in the poles to create the Mahotans; the imaginary tribe I described earlier.
Many tribes believed that the poles would ward off impending danger. I did find material on the Mississippian culture and their textiles, which gave me a lot of inspiration and design ideas for my hand woven garments.
For the final phase of my project I would like to create a sacred pole for a re-enactment of the Chickasaw migration story at the Chickasaw annual festival."")
