Akwanan mor, rock's mother mola
cotton appliqué
75 x 89 cm
The name of this mola most likely refers to a large grinding stone
from a corn mill that may have come from Germany, and was sold to traders
in Kuna Yala during the earlier part of this century. Cacique Carlos
López remembers this brand of corn mill from his childhood. In the
center of the image are four openings where the corn was dropped in to
be ground. Collected in 1922 and presented by Lady Richmond Brown and
F.A. Mitchell Hedges.
