In 1973, with the support of the Puffers, Frank Day began teaching
Maidu song and dance to a group of California Indians. Today, the
Maidu Dancers and Traditionalists continue to perform the dances
he taught them, and are his living legacy.
The works of three contemporary artists of Maidu descent, Dalbert
Castro, Harry Fonseca, and Judith Lowry are also included in the
Exhibit. We managed to quickly videotape a very busy Harry Fonseca
during his whirlwind visit to NMAI for the opening, and related panel
discussion.
