THE
BEGINNING OF THE END FOR THE END OF THE TRAIL 1994
bronze/mixed media

"This piece deals with a very un-funny subject, racism
and the stereotypes and misconceptions that arise from it, in a way
that I think is funny. These are assumptions and oppressive acts
that Native people have all come up against at one time or another.
They resurface on such a regular basis and have become so redundant
that I can't help but laugh sometimes-only sometimes that is. I thought
that if I placed those assumptions and acts in their true context,
that of a child's toy (after all they are a game, right?), then perhaps
people might begin to understand just how foolish they are. Or not,
enit?"
