Mimbres Valley Bowl

The Mimbres arose from the Mogollon, who had arisen from the Cochise. All three groups occupied nearly the same territory, but at different times. These people lived during the time AD 1000. Mimbres pots show several world levels, showing the human, animal and plant worlds. Human, animal, and geometric designs are typical. Mixing animals and humans together is also common. No one knows exactly how they fired the pottery way back then. It's a ceramics mystery. This Mimbres bowl is from New Mexico. They first formed and shaped the pot by hand. After drying and probably sanding, they painted designs on the pot. Finally, they fired the pot in a pit. I chose this because it's really old and has a hole in it. The pots that have holes were placed with the dead. The hole releases the spirit. The bowl has pretty designs, too.
