Michigan HeaddressI picked this headdress because it is from the Great Lakes area, and I live in that area. This headdress was made in the late 1800's. There was a settlement around Fort Michilimackinac. Someone from the Ottawa, Ojibwa, Potawatomi or the Huron tribes could have made this headdress. The headdress is made with eagle feathers, quill work, horse-hair, clay or bone beads, brass rings and jingles. Back then the headdress was used for dancing and for the person who was in line for leadership of the lodge. Today the headdress could be used for pow-wows or lodge dancing. Today it could be made with eagle, crow and hawk feathers, and animal skins, beads and silver accessories. --Michelle, Nah Tah Wahsh PSA |
