Crow ShieldThis is a Crow shield made of painted buffalo hide with feathers. The shield depicts a thunderbird. The Crows believed that when the thunderbird opened his eyes, lightning would shoot out. The Crow people currently live in southeastern Montana. There is a butterfly depicted on the shield, too. The butterfly was probably the medicine of the man who made the shield. I like this shield because it has eagle feathers and crow feathers, has a butterfly painted on it and it's made of buffalo hide. It was used for protection in the war path. |
