Shuar Beetlewing Cover Earrings

I picked this item because it interests me and it's made out of beetle wing covers. This item was made for showing off. It can be earrings or sideburn ornaments. The people who made this item were called the Shuar, also known as Jivaro.

The beetle wing covers are from a beetle called Wau Wau, and the feathers are from a toucan. The people from this tribe are very war-like. They shrink the heads of their captured enemies.

When a Shuar person fasts, others do a special dance for him. Another person dances and sings around the others. Then the dancer sacrifices a chicken and spills the blood all over the person who is fasting. The next day he fasts, seeking a vision.
