For the third year, the NMAI presents the artistic work of Native composers and classical musicians. This year’s programs include:
- Works for string quartet by student composers and a performance by a young classical guitarist
- Programs for school groups by violinist/storyteller Swil Kanim (Lummi)
- The DC premiere of a new work inspired by Native themes by composer/conductor Randall Craig Fleischer, with Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and other Native classical and cultural performers
- A violin and piano recital by Tara-Louise Montour (Mohawk) and Timothy Long (Muskogee-Creek/Choctaw)
- An all-Native chamber orchestra performing music to a silent film by Edward Curtis, In the Land of the Headhunters (1914)
- A recital of piano works by Native composers
- The premiere of three new works by the Three Sides Taagi Classical Native Trio (Dawn Avery, Tara-Louise Montour, and Steven Alvarez) with poet Janet-Marie Rogers, elder Jan Longboat, and videographer Chris Bose
