Native Boatbuilding Traditions: Ojibwe Birch Bark Canoe

For a 12-day period, two canoe builders—Marvin Defoe (Red Cliff Band of Ojibwe) and Jeff Savage (Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa)—will construct a full-size birch bark canoe in the Mall Museum's Potomac Atrium. They will demonstrate and discuss the process of birch bark canoe building.
